The Town of Longmeadow will provide a curbside-bagged leaf collection program again this fall. Longmeadow residents will have three options for leaf disposal: 1) use the Town Pay As You Throw (PAYT) curbside leaf collection program; 2) hire a private contractor for leaf removal; or 3) purchase a Recycling Center sticker (if you haven’t already) and transport leaves directly to the Meadows leaf composting site on West Road.
Town of Longmeadow PAYT leaf bags are available for purchase at four locations:
Longmeadow Big Y, Carr-Brightwood Hardware in Enfield, the Council on Aging, and the DPW office on Pondside Road during normal business hours. The cost for the bags is $5 for a roll of 10.
Curbside collection of the Town PAYT leaf bags will be held on Saturday, November 5th, Saturday, November 19th, and Saturday, December 3rd. Residents who are putting leaf bags out for collection are advised to have them to the curb by 7:00 A.M. on those Saturday mornings. These collections are weather dependent.
The drop off area in the Meadows off of West Road will open for the season on Monday, October 24th and will remain open to residents and contractors through Sunday, December 11th, weather permitting. The hours of operation will be from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm - seven days per week with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. A current Recycling and Yard Waste Center sticker is required for residents to use the West Road leaf drop-off site. Contractors must purchase prepaid permits at the Town Clerk’s office.
The Recycling and Yard Waste Center will begin winter hours on Saturday, October 29th. The Recycling Center will only be open on Saturdays from 8-3PM October 29th through December. The hours will change to Saturdays only 9-12 noon January-March 2017. Exact dates will be announced.
