In accordance with the State of Massachusetts’ I/I (Infiltration and Inflow) requirements, the Town of Longmeadow contracted Longmeadow-based DPC Engineering, LLC (DPC) to conduct a two-phase I/I study for the Town. The first phase included open channel sewer flow monitoring. Phase 1 was completed in 2017. The second phase is now underway, and includes Town-wide manhole inspections, sonar testing of sewer mains in cross-country easements, and the development of an asset management plan to help guide the Town’s sewer system capital plan over the next decade.
Over the next several months, staff from DPC will be conducting field work in Longmeadow. The field work requires manholes to be opened and inspected. The sonar testing of the pipelines along the cross-country sewer easements includes opening two manholes and sending a sonar signal through the connection pipes to evaluate their condition. The sonar sound is relatively high pitch, and residents may notice an atypical sound during the tests. The tests last 10 to 15 minutes.
DPC staff will have identifications and business cards. The DPC team will be in regular contact with the Longmeadow DPW regarding the location of the field staff. The DPW will update the Longmeadow Police Department accordingly. Residents may see DPC staff, or the white field vehicle shown in the attached picture, on Town roads and adjacent to the cross-country sewer easements. Any questions can be directed to the Longmeadow DPW at 413-567-3400.
