In the modern era, fire prevention services are considered equally, or perhaps more important than fire suppression. In fact, there are far fewer fires today than in the past, a credit to the prevention efforts of the fire service. The Longmeadow Fire Department offers a full range of fire prevention services to the residents and businesses of the community.

Department Responsibilities
In Massachusetts, local fire departments are responsible for the enforcement of all state and local fire codes and regulations. More specifically, the department’s Fire Prevention Division is responsible for:
  • Granting permits
  • Handling technical issues involving the fire code
  • Maintaining records
  • Investigating fires that occur
  • Public education
