The Longmeadow Community Preservation Commission (CPC) has announced it is now accepting applications for project recommendations utilizing Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding. Applications are available at the Town Clerk’s office, or on line at:

https://www.longmeadow.org/318/Community-Preservation-Committee

Applications are to be received at the Town Clerk’s office no later than Wednesday December 1, 2021 for consideration and approval at the Spring 2022 Annual Town Meeting.

Projects eligible for CPA funds must benefit the Town of Longmeadow by meeting one or more of the following criteria: 1. the acquisition, creation and preservation of open space; 2. the acquisition and preservation of historic resources;  3. the creation, preservation and support of community housing; and/or 4. the acquisition, creation, improvement and preservation of land for recreational use.  Project funds cannot be used for routine maintenance.

“To date Longmeadow has approved 94 projects totaling over $5,182,000.  The projects ranged in size from $2,500 to $675,000.  They include renovation of the Blinn tennis courts, restoration work on the Community House and other town buildings, preservation of a number of historical documents, preservation of headstones in the Longmeadow Cemetery, replacement of the high school track, preservation of Storrs House and Storrs Library, rehabilitation of the Center School and its playground, improvements to the Wolf Swamp School playground, renovations to facilities at Wolf Swamp, Strople, Dipippo  and Turner fields, and many others.  These projects highlight the value of Community Preservation funds. It is a wonderful source of funds for Longmeadow residents or organizations that have contemplated a project that meets CPA criteria but lack sufficient funds”, stated Steven Weiss, Chairman of the Longmeadow CPC.

“We have tried to make the application process as easy as possible.  Any individual or group can apply for CPC funds.  In addition, although it is not necessary, CPC members will meet with community organizations to discuss if a potential project meets the CPC criteria and to assist with completing the application”, stated Mr. Weiss. For more information or to download an application, access the CPC link at www.longmeadow.org or email the CPC at longmeadowcpc@longmeadow.org .
